01 Project overview
The product
Mowi is ticketing app for movie theaters and it would enable easy purchase of tickets for a chosen movie in different movie theaters all over the world.
The problem
We’re creating a new app to help people order multiple tickets for the movie theater. Before launching we need to figure out ordering steps are easy for users to proceed.
The goal
We would like to understand what specific challenges our users might face in ordering multiple tickets, payment, and the process of entering the movie theater hall, and how we can help fix those challenges.
02 Understanding the user
User research
I conducted interviews and created empathy maps to understand the users I’m
designing for and their needs. A primary user group identified through research
was young adults who frequently visit cinema for entertainment.
This user groups confirmed initial assumption about Mowi’s customers but research
reveals that entertainment wasn’t only reason to watch movies in cinema but also the
wholesome experience of the movie theaters. Other user problems included obligations,
interests, or challenges that make it difficult to purchase ticket in the box office and
how app would simplify purchase of the ticket.
Pain points

Persona 1: Christina
Problem statement: Christina is a curator assistant who needs quick & simple purchase of tickets because waiting in the line makes her frustrated.

User journey map
Mapping Christina’s journey revealed how useful ticketing app for movie theaters would be for users.

Paper wireframe

Taking the time to draft iterations of each screen of the app on paper ensured that the elements that made it to digital wireframes would be well-suited to address user pain points. For the home screen, I prioritized a quick and easy ticketing process to help users save time.
03 Starting design
Digital wireframe
As the initial design phase continued, I made sure to base screen designs on feedback and findings from the user research.

Selecting the seats in the app enables user an easier way to find the right seat. Visual presentation of the seats in the movie hall enables user to find seats easier.

Usability study: Findings

04 Refining the design
Mockups

As the initial design phase continued, I made sure to base screen designs on feedback and findings from the user research. From the usability study home page missed a price information.

06 Going Forward
Impact
The app makes users feel like Mowi app really thinks about how to meet their needs.
One quote from peer feedback:
“ The app is made to purchase tickets quickly and easily without any complicated steps. I would definitely use it for purchasing tickets because it would spare me a lot of time.”
What I learned
While designing the Mowi app, i learned that you need to iterate a lot to develop the most efficient app for the user. Usability studies with feedbacks helped to create a smart and simple app.
